  • Dongwon Education
    Foundation

Dongwon Education Foundation was established on July 2, 1979, (and was approved by the Ministry of Culture and Education) in the belief that Korea’s future lies in cultivating talented individuals. For almost 40 years, the foundation has worked to cultivate the sort of talented people that society needs through scholarships for elementary-school, middle-school, high-school and college students; donations for youth soccer teams; Ocean Writing Contests; donations of picture books for children; and support for college students to travel overseas. It has also striven to raise the level of national education by supporting prominent universities and research centers, including Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University, Chonnam University, the National Institute of Fisheries Science and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.

Explore the Big World Through Picture Books, Dongwon Chaekggureogi (From 2007 to the Present)

In 2007, Dongwon Education Foundation began the Dongwon Chaekggureogi project to encourage mothers and children to read together. We believe that building reading habits and raising children to love books are essential for the cultivation of talented individuals. As of the end of 2015, we have donated over 1.1 million books to families with children under 6. By helping children spend time reading with their mothers, we hope to nurture individuals who have healthy personalities, engage in kind conversations and show consideration and respect for others.

Dongwon Global Explorer is a program that provides our future leaders with opportunities to travel abroad and gain wider perspectives. Dongwon Education Foundation is helping college students travel to other continents, discover Korea’s place in the world, learn about themselves and establish life goals. We are providing opportunities that are more than just visits overseas as participating students experience endless feedback, teamwork and small victories by preparing, exploring and sharing their experiences afterward.
